The Purpose Of Life

During a time of intercessory prayer I was overwhelmed with the urge to write, these are the words I was moved to write by The Spirit

Purpose Of Life

People are always searching for something. Before we find God or if we are without God, we are always searching for something. We are continually left wanting more. From here we see the human root of original sin, the innate fleshly desire for more knowledge, to become more than we are.

One point to ponder on, is that we are made in Gods image. He is a part of us, this is why we are unique Earth and no other animal, insect, fish or created thing comes close to us. We were first created to walk in the garden of Eden, hand in hand with God, in relationship and community. He wanted to walk with us and admire the animals and to enjoy the beauty of creation. Just in the same way a father loves to walk with their children and enjoy the labours of his work with them.

But we broke the one rule the Ruler put in place and we ate from the tree to fulfil a desire to want to be more. Even through the story of being cast out we see the Love of the Father for us. God did the first animal sacrifice when He clothed Adam and Eve. He chose to protect us, cover us as well as releasing a means for us to get right before Him, through sacrifice. From this point on we see in the history of man kind a desire for relationship with more, a desire for understanding, a desire for definition, a desire to worship or praise or elevate someone or something.

We see this through Cain and Abel, they were looking to get right with God and send offerings up to please him. Cain got jealous because God favoured Abels offering, so he killed his brother on the hope of a deeper more intimate relationship with God. We see in the nation of Israel an impatience to wait on God so they chose to worship a golden calf. They had just been set free from Egypt, seen the plagues, seen the Red Sea parted, yet after only a few days of solitude from God they turned to worshiping a false idol. We can see continually throughout the history of man (inside the Bible and outside of the Bible) a desire to connect with more than we know. This is still seen in todays world, with people looking to connect with UFOs or the spiritual world via Tarot cards or fortune reading or other such “spiritual” means. None of these means brings the satisfaction or completeness that people are looking for.

So why doesn’t God just come back and complete us? Why doesn’t He just help us in what the world is looking for? Well we firstly need to understand that humanity sinned against God, not God against us. Because of our sin, our disobedience, He cast us out from the garden and we were no longer eligible to be in His presence. We do see through His word that it was again possible to be in his presence via the Mosaic law. We also see prior to the laws of Moses that there was The Ways of the Lord (its funny how the original name used by Christianity was followers of The Way). But these ways were not achievable by man, apart from a select few, our flesh was too weak. We were unable to resist temptation, we were unable to defeat satans hold on our mind and lives. So much so that even just after seeing the undeniable presence of God, through miracles, plagues and a cloud of fire resting on a mountain human nature led to millions chasing to worship a golden cow.

So God did then come back and complete us, He came down to help us. He did this via His Son Jesus Christ our Messiah. Jesus was crucified as the sacrifice for all of humanity, the price was payed for all of our sin. At the beginning we saw how God killed a sheep to clothe Adam and Eve, we see that Jesus was sacrificed to clothe all of humanity in Him. The spilling of innocent blood during the feast of Pentecost meant that sins were atoned for and yet again humanity can be pure and righteous before God, just like Jesus was when He was in the flesh on Earth.

How does this then complete us? Because Jesus payed the price for our sins the Holy Spirit is then able to rest on us and in us. The same Spirit of the Lord that rested on the prophets, that rested on the anointed people such as King David, the same Holy Spirit that descended on Jesus can now descend on those who chose to believe and accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of their lives.

This is the missing piece we are looking for, that divine relationship with God. To again be walking in Gods creation hand in hand with Him. This is all answered through the releasing of the Holy Spirit onto all humanity if we but chose to say Yes & Amen.

Jesus is the missing piece of life.
